ANNO DOMINI
A solo exhibition at RATH
“anno Domini” is a visual response to research of the ancient Near East. The collection features 12 paintings and 7 studies which embody a tactile glimpse into the cradle of civilization, with references to oral and written traditions of faith, migration, and agricultural practices.
The artwork will be presented chronologically, based on their historical references. Beginning in the immeasurable prehistory of Mesopotamia, the collection will follow the conquests and survival of people groups, as well as notable character stories throughout ancient Egypt, Persia, Anatolia and the Levant. The exhibition draws to a close with the convergence of Mediterranean cultures in the region, around the dawn of the Common Era.
The gallery setting at Rath will offer visitors a unique and immersive viewing experience. From 17th century novelties found in the the heart of Europe, to iconic international design pieces of the mid 20th century, the objects at Rath join the conversation with their own stories of provenance and patina.
“anno Domini” will be an opportunity to engage with objects that pay homage to the past, while grounding us more deeply to the present. Provisions of fresh bread, olive oil, figs and the wines referenced throughout the collection will be offered to visitors.
